What a Relief!

In response to the Goldstone Commission report, the UN General Assembly gave Israel and Hamas three months to conduct their own investigations into the Commission's findings that both sides had committed war crimes during last year's Israeli attack on Gaza; if these investigations were unsatisfactory, the Commission recommended, the International Criminal Court must conduct its own investigation to determine what action to take.

News story from this morning's Haaretz (Jan. 29, 2010), "Barak: Israel Hands UN Response to Goldstone"

"This morning we handed the UN a report of the investigations and operations that took place during Operation Cast Lead....This report stresses that the IDF is like no other army, both from a moral standpoint as well as from a professional standpoint."

Whew! Well, that's that. Israel is now off the hook.

It's hard to argue with that, though the military forces most similar to the IDF are probably in Rwanda and Somalia.
