Worst Political Scientist of 2015

As a retired professor of political science, I have decided to start an annual contest for the Worst Political Scientist of the Year. Until today, there was no contest: the runaway victor was Michael Oren (not only a fellow political scientist, but a fellow Princeton Ph.D in political science, much to the mortification of both Princeton and me). However, a story in today’s NY Times has thrown the contest in disarray, for it may be that one Julio Castaner of Chile has beaten out Oren. According to the story, when Castaner was in the Chilean army in the Pinochet era, he poured gasoline on a student protester and burned him alive. After Castaner left the army, according to the Times he became “a professor of political science at the University of Magallanes.”
